Our ValuesĪrnold’s has always enjoyed taking part in bettering the lives of its employees, their families, and the communities in which they live. Future PlansĪrnold’s is expanding to Mauldin, SC and is looking to add five additional restaurants to South Carolina communities in the coming years. Once that location was a success Gary purchased the business from Arnold, later opening the Liberty and Powdersville locations. In 2013 our current owner Gary Durkee opened our second location in Belton, SC. While we experienced great success at the original location, we outgrew the space and were forced to move to our current location on Civic Center Blvd. Our first location was in the Pruitt Shopping Center on Main St. HistoryĪrnold’s was founded in 1978 by Arnold Perry. I was so disappointed when they closed.Arnold’s restaurants have become a staple of the communities we serve including Anderson, Belton, Liberty, and Powdersville. I would stop at the one in Pasadena, TX close to me when I got off work & get my dinner. I loved the fried chicken and drinking out of the mason jars. We use to eat thy here in Independenxe Mo in the 80,s sure do miss them great food., we could toke the kids and have fun for a great price. My Dad has passed on now and I may never eat at another Po’ Folks again but I will always be grateful for the wonderful memories they provided. I always left there with my belly so tight my pants nearly cut me in half. The food was always great no matter what we ate. The smell as we walked in the door was heavenly. We ate at many places…Perkin’s, IHOP, Shoney’s…among others but my favorite was always Po’ Folks. Louis, MO area or along the route on one of our travels. The fondest memories I have of spending time with my Dad is eating at various restaurants either in the St. So sad that it went of out business around here. Like everyone else has said, they were always busy – always – The food was good, the service was good – and the price was good. Hard to fingure how it went out of business there. I recall as a student it did a fair amount of business there. It used to be on the east side of the mall. It was in the Hollywood Shopping center on Lindsey St. I remember on the one in Norman, OK(went to OU there). One near Hwy 41 and Windy Hill Rd in Cobb and the other on Holcomb Bridge Rd about a mile east of Hwy 400 on the south side. There are two PoFolks here in the Atlanta metro area that I know of right now.

I’m thinking cause it didn’t have a Full bar. Why would a Restaurant go down when it was so busy. I worked at PoFolks.for 9 yes because we were so busy it was located by Knotts berry Farm in Buena Park,Ca. There used to be one in lenexa Kansas, and I live in Kansas city, Kansas would drive there because the ambience of it and I love catfish the way they did it, wish they would come back even by the Kansas speedway. Please tell me where you were located in Norman OK. I ate at Po Folk in Norman OK in the late 80s and when I pass a certain location I remember it being there. It’s nice to know that some things do remain over time. Currently, they have 14 locations in 7 states, a much less ambitious roster of locations as in years prior.

Another outfit (Vittles Companies, Inc.) purcased the chain and the naming rights. Following an e-mail to the company and a very quick response, I learned that Po’ Folks went bankrupt some time ago, which would account for all the restaurants in my state closing. Unfortunately, it’s mainly in the southern states. So I did a little research on the internet and found out that the Po’ Folks restaurant is still out there. The food was good and the prices were reasonable, although I’d have to confer with my parents on the latter. Until recently, I forgot how I missed this dining establisment! The Mason Jar was what you would drink out of at this restaurant.
#PO FOLKS RESTAURANT CRACKER#
It took me a while to remember the name of this restaurant, but it just came to me this morning (that happens a lot with me). I guess the best way to describe Po’ Folks would be to imagine a Cracker Barrel way before its time (without the country store). This conjured up memories of eating at Po’ Folks, a restaurant that no longer exists anywhere in my home state. I was listening to Howard Stern yesterday and Robin mentioned something about Richard eating something out of a Mason Jar.
